Attorney in the Castro Valley Area in California
With a Location in Twain Harte Serving Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties
If you are struggling to pay your debts and have considered bankruptcy as a way to stop foreclosure proceedings or put an end to the harassing phone calls and threatening letters, you want an experienced lawyer to guide you through the process. The bankruptcy laws changed in 2005.
The changes were made as a result of the heavy lobbying by the credit card industry, which wanted to make obtaining bankruptcy relief more complex and more expensive. Their goals were met, however, because these changes were poorly written, those changes may actually work in your favor.
At the Law Offices of Matthew M. Spielberg, with offices in Castro Valley and Twain Harte, we offer over 22 years of practice experience to clients throughout the East Bay and the Tri-Valley area, as well as Calaveras and Tuolumne counties. We have focused our representation exclusively on bankruptcy and bankruptcy-related matters since 1990, and our attorney has been certified as a bankruptcy specialist by the California Board of Legal Specialization since 1997. Contact our office or call us at the numbers listed below to arrange a confidential consultation.
Our Approach to Bankruptcy
At our office, we strongly believe in the bankruptcy process as an effective way to help people get a fresh start. Because we want the process to be as valuable as possible, we ask all new clients to come to the first meeting prepared. The specific items we need you to bring to our first meeting include:
- Copies of all pay stubs for the last 60 days
- An accounting of your income and deductions for the last 6 months
- A complete list of your creditors with
- An accurate mailing address
- An approximate dollar balance
- An account number
- The name and number of any attorney/collections agency attempting to collect this debt
- A copy of your most recent federal tax return (although not necessary at the first meeting)
At our first meeting, we will conduct a quick review of your data, give you an assessment of your options and provide you with the information necessary to complete the Congressionally mandated credit counseling course.
Our Bankruptcy Practice
We focus our bankruptcy practice on the needs of individual consumers, handling Chapter 7 (liquidation) and Chapter 13 (reorganization). We can refer you to qualified counsel if you are considering filing a Chapter 11 reorganization for a large business.
